Chapter Twelve

Abigail was sitting at Aaron’s computer when he came home. He had left a note saying he had to go into the office and he would be back soon. Abigail smiled at the sweet gesture of him leaving a note. Aaron was always nothing but a gentleman. She had woken up feeling refreshed after their latest bout of lovemaking. She could still feel him everywhere especially when she sat down. She didn’t think she would have ever liked the dominating butt smacking, but with Aaron, she hadn’t minded.

She knew he had wanted to make slow love, but she couldn’t commit to it. There was something about slow lovemaking that was more intimate than regular lovemaking. A deeper connection, one she wasn’t ready for. They both had their careers they were dedicated to and would keep them apart more than they were together. Abigail thought she could do a long-distance thing with him if he asked, but now she wasn’t so sure. She cared for him too much and would hate the distance. She was getting used to seeing him every day, and they were falling into a routine.

She could see how connected Aaron was to his team to leave them to come to DC. Neither one would want to give up their careers or life for the other. She had no reason to be thinking about it anyway. She had gone into this knowing it would only be temporary. Aaron would help her with her mission, and she would go back home, and they would go back to chatting online.

Could she really go back to that as if nothing had ever happened? What choice did she have?

Abigail was pulled from her thoughts when the security camera brought up Aaron driving up the driveway and parking in the back of the house. He looked angry and the slamming of the kitchen door told her he was in a foul mood. Abigail turned in her chair to face the staircase and waited for him to come downstairs.

Aaron stomped down them a moment later clenching his fists until he reached the bottom and locked gazes with her. He looked furious, and for some reason, it turned her on. Now was not the time to be thinking about sex. It was hard to remember that looking at him in a tight white t-shirt that accentuated his biceps and highlighted his tattoo or his tight jeans with his military boots. He looked good enough to eat. Geez, Abbie get a hold of yourself. He’s upset. Try asking him what’s wrong instead of trying to jump his bones. She thought.

Abigail cleared her throat. “I take it things didn’t go well at the office?” she asked casually.

Aaron didn’t answer her. He stalked up to her and threw himself in the chair next to her. Abigail masked her disappointment that he didn’t kiss her before sitting down. It’s not like we’re dating.

“The team got called out to go on a mission in a few days.” He growled.

Abigail couldn’t mask the disappointment that time.
